| The growth of project management as an international discipline has been driven by the growth in the complexity of projects undertaken around the world. Project management utilizes information and measurements to create a logical process that minimizes risk, aligns resources, and maximizes accountability, in the organization and towards stakeholders.
The scope of this course is to introduce the concept of project management and give an insight into some of the various tools and techniques used by project managers in the oil and gas industry and transportation. Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to: • understand the basics of Project Management as described by the Project Management Institute’s Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) of the Project Management Institute (PMI) • understand the specialized project management skills and the role of the project manager in the oil and gas industry and transportation • evaluate the main issues that oil and gas industry and transportation projects face problems and help improving them. |

| By the end of this course students will be able to
• use project management concepts, tools & techniques to initiate, plan, execute, control, and close projects in the oil and gas industry and transportation • identify the critical activities in a project and calculate the duration of a project • implement total quality management standards in a project • identify and cope with the risks associated with the realization of a project. |

| 1. Introduction in Project Management
Project management as a discipline. Projects definition and characteristics. The Scope of Projects. The Role of a project manager. Project Life Cycle. Stakeholders and communication of a project in the oil and gas industry and transportation (6hours)
2. Management Processes for a Project. Process of a project: from initiating a project to closing it . 4 D model. Coordination of the processes and activities of the project. Trade-offs among competing objectives and alternatives. Managing interdependencies. Organizational Infleunces (6 hours)
3. Project Management : Time and Resources Developing a schedule from a statement of works. Work breakdown structure (WBS) CPM and PERT approaches. GANTT charts. Tradeoffs. Producing a project master schedule. Human resource management of the project team(6 hours)
4. Project Cost Planning and Control Project cost plans and budget. Cost planning and cost control systems. Earned Value Analysis (EVA). Make or buy? Managing suppliers and supply chain of the project. Procurrement (6 hours)
5. Project Quality Management. Quality management concepts. Tools and Techniques. Quality assurance and control. Quality standards in the oil and gas industry and transportation. ISO 21500. (6hours)
6. Project Risk Management Sources of risk and uncertainty in projects in the oil and gas industry and transportation. Risk management systems. Contingency plans. Stakeholder analysis (9 hours) |
